Chase Freedom announces 5% cash back bonus at grocery stores - Android Central

Posted: 19 Mar 2020 12:00 AM PDT

Heads up! We share savvy shopping and personal finance tips to put extra cash in your wallet. Android Central may receive a commission from The Points Guy Affiliate Network. Please note that the offers mentioned below are subject to change at any time and some may no longer be available.

Every three months, Chase changes the bonus categories that they are offering for its cardholders of the Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimted cards. The company has announced the next categories that will receive elevated rewards, and extra cash back on groceries is on the way.

Between April 1, 2020, through June 30, 2020, Chase Freedom cardholders will earn 5% cash back on the following categories:

Early Prime Day deals 2020: Sales on headphones, Galaxy phones, Echo devices & more

  • Grocery stores
  • Fitness clubs
  • Gym memberships

While Fitness clubs and gym memberships are understandably not an enticing offer right now (unless you're already paying for your membership and want to grab extra rewards while you wait to return), the grocery store offer is a great help to many right now.

However, keep in mind that this will most likely apply to only traditional grocery stores. Retailers like Walmart, Target, Sams Club, and Costco generally are not considered a grocery store by credit card companies and will most likely not receive those increased rewards. That said, most traditional grocery stores will earn the new 5% cash back reward.

Some online retailers also make the cut if you are planning on having groceries delivered to your door. Chase lists some of the eligible grocery delivery services including brands like Instacart, Amazon Fresh and Fresh Direct.
