Cheyenne residents responded to a call for help Saturday by waiting in a line of cars about one-half mile long to buy doughnuts from a troubled doughnut shop.

Dozens of cars lined up on South Greeley Highway south of Cheyenne to buy doughnuts from Dad’s Donuts and The Boys Brew, responding to a call on social media for assistance.

Earlier in the week, the store had posted on its Facebook page an appeal for people to support the shop by buying doughnuts. The posting, which has since been removed, said a small business loan made possible through the coronavirus relief package approved by Congress recently failed to materialize, leaving the store with debts.

However, on Saturday, the store owned by Fred and Lynn Boykin posted a new message thanking Cheyenne residents for their help.

“WHOA!!!” the posting said. “All I have to say is we are completely humbled by the amount of support you guys have shown us. PLEASE (bear) with us as we are completely overwhelmed and are back up the street both ways. Please be patient as we are constantly filling orders. If you call and we don’t answer it is because we haven’t stopped, and are trying to get to you as soon as we can. We can’t thank you all enough for really showing up for us!!”
